My Dream Desk!

Vintage Metal Desk

Talking of desks....
My Dad has worked for Michigan State University for many years now (I'd have to say 30+ years!), and has had the same office for almost the entire time. Over that time, it's changed a little bit here and there, but it's essentially looked the same as it did when I was a little girl growing up in Michigan.
With that office, he's always had the same greenish metal desk - one I distinctly remember hiding under too! But when he had to move out of there last year, and into the building's new addition, it was a little sad.. (even if his new office looks rather nice!).
Due to this, his desk was to surely change too - and I couldn't bear the idea of loosing his old vintage metal desk which held so many memories, it was like a piece of family history!
Thankfully however, at my insistent request! Dad saved it!! And now sits at his house (along with a matching table!) waiting for me to give it a proper home!!!! One day, I will have it in my home, where it will take pride of place and be tenderly cared for.. I'll look forward to that time!

It looks very similar to the one in the image above - if not exactly like it!
When it does come to be with me, I think I'll have it sit on a cowhide rug, like those in the photos below - either in it's hide shape, or in a patchwork! Perfect!!

Cowhide!! Left, Kim's Living Room (and that's Kim from Desire to Inspire!). Right, Black and White Patchwork rug from Pure Rugs.

Ochre!

Over the past weekend, I had to take a trip into Ochre on Broome Street for one of our clients, and seen as how it's just around the corner from my apartment, it was a nice little stop off with my hot coffee in one hand, camera in the other, before I hit the flea markets uptown!

I found lots of goodies which would be perfect, and I did get nice and snap happy! Above is my favorite shot, so I thought I'd show it off here, and give you all a little taster of this beautiful store! It's got lots of lush, modern and vintage items and furniture, all of which work great together! I love this place, and just like most places down here, it's like a huge loft space, high ceilings, gorgeous old wood floors....If you get the chance, go for a visit! You won't be disappointed!

Once Upon A Stumble!

If I'm lucky, and work isn't ridiculously busy first thing in the morning, I take the time to ease into the usually hectic rest of the day by checking out my favorite blogs and doing searches into finding out what's out there in the world of design, art, photography, or anything else creative which sparks an interest. With a hot coffee in hand, and my probably very unhealthy apple turnover for breakfast, I enjoy this part of the day very much!

Today, I stumbled across a blog which I really enjoyed looking at, Ashley L's, Decor Amor. I love her floral, feminine, vintage and colorful sense of style! Her photography is amazing too, check out her Flickr site here too! It's highly decorative and beautiful, a feast for the eyes!

So with Ashley in mind, and inspired, I indulged a little on my love for china teacups through the wonders of Flickr! One day I will have my open (dream!) kitchen shelves stacked high with all of my hand picked china!!!

Now, for a little twist on where you'd usually find your teacups....here, made from thrift store found cups turned upside-down and with a little light bulb, I give you, the Ted Lights by Domestic Construction! This company was created by two women, Trish and Maureen, with one's obsession with objects and the others love for fashion, they have combined to create an inventive, playful and distinctive style.

Perfect Pink!!

a pink crayon....at my front door!

Do you ever hear a song, that you haven't heard in a while, and then you can't get it out of your head? In fact, you keep humming it, keep replaying it, and turn it wayyy up while you dance around your apartment and sing your heart out?! Yes, yes, thats me! Its one of those lovely little things that we do when no one else is looking!

So this weekend I've certainly had one of those moments - and yes, occasionally on repeat! Oscar is hilarious when I, how shall I put it..."rock out"!! Haha!! He goes nuts too, jumping all around the apartment, playing with all of his toys at once! He is particularly fond of Guns n Roses!! However, this time it's Aerosmith, and their song "Pink", which I have found I completely adore! The video is a little odd, but I love the lyrics, and I've posted the youtube link below for your listening pleasure!

The funny thing is, on Saturday, when I was walking into my apartment building, what should I find right in front of the door? Strangely enough...a bright pink crayon!!! I couldn't believe it! (you have to listen to the song lyrics!) Of course, I had to pick it up, and I took a photo of it (above) on my most beloved oyster shell side table.

I always find it so funny when things like that happen...

So here I have not only posted Aerosmith, but also a ton of images, photography and interiors, all of which are gloriously pink! I enjoyed picking them out (while listening to the song of course!) so I hope you enjoy them too!
Pink isn't just for Barbie, or what some people call 'girly girls' but truly, it is a gorgeously feminine color, and can be so classy, stunning and so perfectly beautiful. I love it!!

A Little More Shabby Chic!

25th street flea market, nyc

The Antiques Garage, nyc

One of my favorite things to do in NYC is checking out the 25th Street Flea Markets, I just love these places - I have wandered around them many times, always finding something I would love to keep!! I think my best find was a 1930's mixing bowl, which was a perfect gift - and now has a wonderful home!
I think I have found a little soft spot for things vintage, flea market, shabby chic, and antique! Below is a chair and ottoman I saw on my last visit - which I would have loved to snap up, clean up, accessorize - if only my little NY apartment could have handled it!
I also found a couple great photo's of the NYC flea market on flickr! Check out 'The Gentleman'.
And if you want to read more about flea markets in America, with some handy little flea market find tips, check out the blog Flea Speech!

So when arriving at my (apartment!) door step today, I found my wonderful purchase of the book 'Flea Market Style' by Emily Chambers, waiting for me! I haven't had the chance to properly devour its pages yet, but here's a few photo's I took of my favorite pages so far! Oh! The inspiration!!.... Oh! How I wish my apartment was bigger!!!!
oh...it's the British in me!
who said dark leather sofa's had to be drab?!
I do love those french inspired beds...

beaten and battered metal furniture - yesss please!

can you imagine the wonderful dinner parties?!!
