Lotus Love...

Talking of lighting, one of my all time favorites is the Lotus Flower Chandelier....I totally adore this. So beautiful, so feminine, so delicate, and such a show stopper!!

The light is created by artisans combining hundreds of hand-cut capiz shells edged in metal together into large pearl and smoke colored spheres. When lit from within the pendants shimmer and shine like stained glass and look just stunning. Available in different sizes from Vita Terra or Graham and Green.

Light Bulb?

I LOVE this Miconos light series designed by Ernesto Gismondi for his company Artemide. I like the twist it plays on the conventional light bulb fixture. It's simple, clean, beautiful, and so powerful in it's presence too... I want one... hey, I want all three! But maybe thats overdoing it... Ha!

Twiggy.....

One of the best things about my job is that sometimes I get to vicariously live through our clients! Yesterday, I think I hit the best ever... one of our nicest clients picked out two of the white Twiggy table lamps from a design book I made her for her Park Avenue apartment. I was thrilled! I've gently pushed for the little beauties before, and I knew she'd snap them up eventually, just her cup of tea...

Ah, the Twiggy light family....designed by Marc Sadler for Foscarini. Born in France, he currently lives in Milan, Italy. Which is where a large part of his career in designing for the sports sector had taken him. For more..here.

The Twiggy lamps are made in composite lacquered material on a fiberglass base and are available in four classic Twiggy colors; red, yellow, black and white.

"It's ample, linear, essential design combined with strong flexibility characterize the formal elegance and light sophistication of Twiggy. Foscarini reinterprets these details, offering an effective concept for new uses, which preserves all the decorative expressiveness of the original floor version. The table lamp offers in scale the typical refinement of the original creation, while the ceiling model is the maximum expression of flexibility: by rotating 330 it is an optimal solution for decentralising a light source."

I think these are gorgeous, simple and elegant lights, and I'm very happy to go ahead and purchase two of them this week! Now, I wonder if she'd notice if I charged her for three....Ha!

To Take A Moment.....

I have often been the most content and peaceful in my life while I have sat on a park bench. Sometimes I have done it with company, other times alone...I sit there and I watch the world tick by in front of me.... watching people going around doing their things, filling their time, or even just how the sunlight moves through the trees. 

I sit there and I think about my life, the people in my life, how lucky and grateful I am for those things, and the world around me....I've sat there for hours, I've sat there for only minutes.. but every time it brings me wonderful moments of happiness, perspective, and memories.

I'm reminiscing tonight, and with it, I have found some photography for you which reminds me of those such moments in my life....

Light, Glorious Light!

So I've been pretty busy recently! I'm undergoing the drastic redecoration of my apartment! Of course, my big problem is, I don't want to show it off until its all done and perfect! - but then you can't have fun watching it all change!!!! So for now, while I gather the photos ready for you, I'll start by dreaming with you a little instead!

Ohh, Hello Moooi! How much do I love Jurgen Bey's Lights?!! How much would I love to have this beautiful lamp in my apartment right now?!!! I'm sure you would recognize his stunning "Shade Shade" lamp below - one which I have admired for as long as I can remember! I love how he mixes the old and traditional with a sharp twist of modern, he does it seamlessly... But when I saw the above Light Shade, I was in Love! Capturing my heart with my passion for traditional art on the shade inside... perfection!!!

Although my heart I leave with the Light Shade above, I do have a soft spot or two for the following lights! Appealing to my more abstract side, these are pretty intense - and in the right place in a home, would look a dream!

Pink! I just painted my walls in my room this gorgeous, hardly there, soft pink (I'm truly embracing my femininity here and loving it!! You'll see what I mean with photos soon!!!)

And so in that breath, I fell over myself when I found these lights in the pictures above and below! Andromeda flawlessly creates these stunning handmade glass lights, I am still in awe of the detail and precision in these pieces... Andromeda was founded in 1972 in Murano, Italy - a glassmaker's heaven since 1291, where else could these beauties originate from?! 

Wood, Beautiful Wood! Crispy clean, warm and inviting... How amazing would this light below look in the perfect den? Or lounge? Or Hallway? Or pretty much anywhere?!!

Through the wonders of the designers Guillermo Capdevila and Jorge Pensi for B.Lux, and one of my favorite little stores, 2Modern, I bring you the Helios Wood Pendant Lamp!...with 18 panels of clear varnished wood, and a core of 7 sockets, this perfectly constructed and gorgeous light certainly would not dim any room!!

ICFF part Three! - and last!

Now, although the ICFF is officially over (it was on tuesday!) and I completely forgot about how they sell their goods which have been on show all weekend on that very tuesday ...(I could have picked up some aaaammazing deals!!!! gr...) I still have one more post of pictures to show you all....Enjoy!!

Baaa! Pink sheep anyone? Now who said it was only a horse that was lucky enough to rock away for kids?!! Adore this little pink lady!! One of the many designs, from one of the many designers from Crafts Collection, a company focused on Danish design which offers amazing alternatives to the average mass produced product - and boy do they do it well!! The pink sheep is designed by Povl Kjer, made with varnished pine, cushioned and upholstered in lambskin...For more information and other amazing Crafts Collection designs check out their website- Here!!!

And talking of animals....who else in the world of design and interiors would possibly have the idea of making a pig - this one with a bandaged ear!! - into a coffee table?? Hm, are you thinking of horses as lampshades yet?! Oh yes, Moooi strikes again! Crazy and classic, every time..of course - the website here! And I do like the funny banging noise on the link page when you go over the Moooi logo!!!! ha!

I am just loving the variety of lights shown at the ICFF! Every one stirs the senses which such a great mix of textures....Above, Josh Urso Design, with puffs of fabric, soft and warm - website here! (also check out his chairs, tables and bowls on his site!!)

From Furry, to shiny!!! I aaadddooorrreeee these mirror ball pendant lights!! And this is only one kind of light from Tom Dixon's Designs! He also has chairs and tables too - for more - here!!!

And now to wood, glorious wood!! From close to home, Brooklyn - I bring you, Dform! Founded in 2001 by James Dieter, the Dform lights are a manipulation of wood veneers or plastics...website!! - here!

Now this was an impressive booth! Molo - a company dedicated to materials research and the exploration of space making. Their designs are a growth from the designers, Forsythe and MacAllen's architectural exhibitions. Above is their "Soft" Line, made of paper! Which has received numerous international awards, and their "Soft Wall" and "Soft Seating" Lines are in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art, here in New York. For more, website!

Iannonne, above, is a firm dedicated to eco-friendly modern design, and I'm all over it like hippie into tree hugging!!!!! In my photo, the top sideboard has a cork front, and the texture is amazing - even just to see, let alone feel! Website!!

Ah....More from the ICFF! Above is a rug by Stile BK, Check out the website - here! I love this rug, so fun, classic in it's own way - I'd love this in my lounge, and it could look so good in a boys bedroom too! For the playful side in all of us...This one is from their Limited Edition collection "Fumetto".

And just around the corner, something a little more up my street!! Now these silver wood stumps I would definitely snatch up in seconds! This is the booth for Modern Dose, created in 2005 by interior designer Estela Lugo, a self-admitted magazine junkie, who decided to bring the pages to life at affordable prices... Now how many of us have dreamed of such a business?! Nice Job Estela! Funny that the tables have turned and now Modern Dose is seen in all the best magazines!!! Now, on the right - we zoom over to Colorado and we find ourselves snuggling up with a cushion!!! Oh, and how these are so warm, glowing and furry, they almost snuggle back with you!! Bristol Memories...

On one typically British damp and overcast afternoon, back in 2004, my friends and I went to visit a field... a field filled with 831 fluorescent light tubes sticking out of the ground! I was still living in Bristol, England, back then when I had heard about Richard Box (a Bristol Installation Artist) and his lights, and I was intrigued enough to trudge up there through the mud to see it all for myself. My friends and I were fortunate enough to meet Richard himself, who was at his caravan with a friend drinking beer in the corner of this, no so typically, British field... Richard told us that every single one of the fluorescent tubes was recycled, and just like your average strip light at work - each one lit up only by the electromagnetic field which surrounds the overhead power lines - and I mean nothing touches the tubes but mud! There really is something magical and slightly scary about it all, but I can tell you from experience, walking in between these lights is nothing like I have ever experienced - out there in the middle of a field at sunset, these tubes glow around me, as I get closer to one it's light fades as my own body absorbs the electricity surrounding it. Crazy and scary to think the electromagnetic field was so strong to do this... So magical to see it....

People in Glass Houses Shouldn't Throw Stones...

Today in NYC was the first real warm spring-like day, it was amazing! Unfortunately, I didn't get to spend much time in it, but I know some of you did - and I'm jealous! I think they should make days like this a no work day - just like Snow Days! Only the opposite!! "Sorry, I can't make it into work today, its too sunny and warm, and I just cant stay inside"...Oh in a perfect world! So on that note, I've been looking around a lot of other design blogs recently, and all are a-buzz with wonderful images and ideas for outside areas, decks, benches, fabrics, sea scapes, gardens, and more, and all amazing... So i decided to post a few images of my own, with a little twist! - in honor of my working to hard inside, to make it outside, living! I've picked a few of my favorite glass extensions, kitchens, rooms, homes...Well you get the idea! If only my working inside could be in one of these - then I could have enjoyed the first spring day of 2008!
